The ANTENA project held last January 12-13 the first phases of its third and fourth workshops conducted and facilitated by the University of Alicante and European Foundation for Management Development.

The third workshop, prepared by UA, was on fundraising opportunities and project management. The fourth workshop, prepared by EFMD, was on internationalization and globalization. Both workshops, held online, were attended by 48 participants from 10 Philippine universities, the Commission on Higher Education, and the three European ANTENA partner institutions: EFMD, University of Montpellier and the UA.

The second phase of both third and fourth workshops are practical face-to-face sessions to be held in the Philippines. Participants will complete the experience with presentations of case studies to facilitate the understanding of concepts and to demonstrate the adaptability of the topics to the Philippine context.

The third workshop focused on three topics:

Dr. Roberto Escarré, Director of UA’s Institutional Project Management Office (OGPI), delivered the topic on international fundraising for higher education institutions. He shared interesting information about the fundraising process, the sources of funding for HEIs, and the main activities funded by donors.

Carolina Madeleine, head of Institutional Projects at OGPI, presented the topic on opportunities for capacity building in higher education (CBHE) in Asia, specifically for the 2022 Erasmus + programme call. She highlighted the priorities of the programme for the period 2021 - 2027, the eligible Asian countries, the type of projects and the selection criteria.

Gabriela Castillo, project manager at OGPI, discussed the importance of project financial management and budget allocation by the EU for the development of cooperation projects. She also shared updates on the financial modalities of CBHE projects for the 2022 call, as well as pieces of advice and recommendations to achieve efficient implementation of international projects from a financial perspective.

For the fourth workshop focused on internationalization and globalization, Dr. Christophe Terrasse, Director at EFMD, facilitated a dynamic session that helped clarify the difference between internationalization and globalization. Other topics discussed include internationalization strategies at home, internationalization of curriculums, and internationalization abroad. Dr. Terrasse also shared a summary of the collaborative online international learning (COIL) tool and encouraged all participants to evaluate the state of internationalization in their institutions.

The fourth workshop gave participants useful tools to deepen and reflect on the subject. Through video viewings and group discussions, participants were offered the possibility to share experiences and activities that promote internationalization of Philippine HEIs to enable them to incorporate these into their professional and institutional action plan.

ANTENA is a capacity building cooperation project co-funded by the Erasmus + program of the European Commission. Partners include the Ateneo de Manila University, Benguet State University, Central Luzon State University, De La Salle University, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Saint Louis University, University of the Philippines, the University of San Carlos, Xavier University–Ateneo de Cagayan, and the Commission on Higher Education.
